The group began in 2018 and quickly gained a massive following in Brazil and around the world. With their unique blend of Bahia’s vibrant energy and a fresh, authentic sound, the trio of Francisco Gil, João Gil, and José Gil have made waves across the globe. They began their promising career under a name as obvious as it was ingenious: a tribute to their father and grandfather Gilberto Gil, one of the most legendarycomposers of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). 

The band blends pop rock, samba, rap and Bahian rhythms, but draws particular inspiration from the classic MPB sound that is theirs – and Brazil’s – musical heritage. Following a strong run of releases, which featured hit tunes “Várias Queixas” and “Love Love”, the band released their Latin GRAMMY-nominated debut album in 2022, “PraGente Acordar.” Buoyed beyond Brazil by ardent followings on Youtube and Tiktok, the group made their US debut tour in 2024 to sold out venues. Gilsons is back for more in 2025 to the delight of fans across the US!
