Carnaval isn’t just a celebration for adults, children love it too! The central theme of the festivities is fun and that’s is something that kids all ages can get by attending the matinee hours of the “18th Annual Brazilian Carnaval with Neguinho da Beija-Flor” on Saturday, February 24th, from 2pm to 6pm, at Cafe Club Fais Do Do.
Dedicated to the whole family, the event features traditional Carnaval activities by Brazilian Play and Learn, a duo of educators who have created a fun methodology to teach Portuguese and the Brazilian culture to kids and teens in Los Angeles.
“By exposing your children to other cultures, you help them to understand the concept of diversity, and give them the opportunity to learn about history, religion, geography, etc. They also learn to accept who are different rather than judge them”, said Bia Borinn, who founded Brazilian Play and Learn in partnership with Mariana Leite. “Being kind and respectful go beyond borders. Celebrating with music and dance is a way to encourage the new generation to experience cross-cultural interactions”, said Mariana.
Kids and families in the matinee will enjoy the marchinas (tradicional Carnaval songs), high-energy drum circles lead by Samba da Mudança and sponsored by REMO. Souvenirs like masks, beads and shakers will be given out. Costumes are encouraged.
In addition, traditional Brazilian street food like coxinha and pão de queijo will be served by vendors and members of the community.
Whether you are Brazilian or any other nationality, bringing your family to celebrate the 18 years of the Brazilian Nites Carnaval in Los Angeles helps to promote awareness on how different cultures make our world a better and more fun place to live!
